Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about keyword density checker.
What is keyword density?
Keyword density is the percentage of times a target keyword appears in a piece of content relative to the total word count. Formula: Keyword Density = (Number of Keyword Occurrences ÷ Total Words) × 100. For example, if your keyword appears 10 times in a 1,000-word article, the keyword density is 1%.
There is no universally “correct” keyword density, and Google has explicitly stated it does not use keyword density as a ranking factor. However, a natural density of 0.5–2% is generally considered appropriate. Below 0.5% may indicate insufficient topical focus; above 3% risks appearing as keyword stuffing, which can trigger Google penalties. Focus on natural language and semantic variations rather than hitting a specific density target.
Modern SEO prioritises semantic relevance over keyword density. Rather than repeating the exact keyword multiple times, use related terms, synonyms, and conceptually related phrases (LSI keywords). Google’s natural language processing understands context, so a well-written article that covers a topic comprehensively will rank better than one that mechanically repeats a keyword. Use keyword density as a sanity check, not a target to optimise toward.
Keyword stuffing is the practice of excessively repeating keywords in content in an attempt to manipulate search rankings. Google’s algorithms are sophisticated enough to detect this and may penalise pages that engage in it. Signs of keyword stuffing include: unnatural sentence construction to include keywords, repeating keywords in footers or hidden text, and using keywords in contexts where they do not add meaning. Write for humans first; optimise for search engines second.
